Mean husband

Don't know what to do...husband has been really mean last couple of days...it makes me want to drink to escape but hopefully not going to do it...he went to local pup last night and got drunk...I went to bed ...

He may think if you quit you'll eventually try to make him quit?

Dee74 12-21-2015 02:51 AM

I'm sorry your husband's been mean.
Has he been mean before?

sometimes it's tough to find support, Lily - but you'll always find support here.

Hi Lily

I'm sorry you're scared.

If your husband is abusive, even if it's at a verbal level only, there's some good reading and ideas for help in our Family and Friends forums

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...out-abuse.html

If you feel in danger, or at any kind of risk, is there somewhere else you can stay tonight - a friends maybe, or family?

lily, if you're scared then he's more than mean. Is there anywhere you can go for a while?

I was living with someone who was mean a lot and dealt (or didn't) with it by drinking. Then I didn't seem to mind what was said.

Stay sober - it does make you realize how your life is and what you've been doing to cope

Exactly what D said

Please take Dee's advice. Any kind of physical, verbal or mental abuse in a relationship is not okay, ever. If you are afraid there are shelters where you can go to be safe and to get a new start in life. You do not need to live like this.

I just wanted to say that whatever you do, hang on to your recovery. I used to drink over relationship problems too. It's an awful cycle because that never solves the underlying problems and you 'have to' continue drinking more since the problems haven't gone away.

Staying sober at first is very uncomfortable because you have to face these problems without the buffer you're used to. For me, that provided the motivating force to finally examine and really solve these problems.

In the short term, do whatever it takes to stay sober today. I don't know details on how your husband is, but perhaps you can go to another room or leave the house entirely if things get bad.

Long term you can work to find more of a solution and examine what you really want for your life.
