Throwing up blood

I'm terrified it's the first time it's happened to me. God what does it mean? Have I done irreversible damage? Do I need to go to the hospital?

Yes, you do need to go to the hospital. Without delay. Go now. Don't be afraid of going. Please go now.

Hi Shanti

yeah the best idea is to go to hospital and get checked out.
Always better to be safe.

Let us know what they say, ok?

Shanti - go to hospital ASAP. You will contemplate on your past mistakes later . Now - get professional help!

I agree you should go to the hospital. But try not to panic. I've seen others post on here about having that same problem. They went to the doctor, stopped drinking, and are fine now

Hi guys, they didn't seem concerned at all, apparently it's damage from the act of vomiting. I feel so much better now. That scared me so much. I'm going to give AA a go , I've never been and I've been hesitant but I'm ready now. I have really opened up to my husband about how bad my situation is, I told him I have been secretly day drinking and calling into work sick, I feel good to own it and be accountable.
And now I'll meditate and try and sleep. Thank you for your concern.

Anytime an alcoholic is throwing up blood i'd be concerned .. my dad was told his throat was thin due to years of alcohol irritating it. He was told if he continued drinking his throat would burst and he'd likely bleed out.

Not always the case but who knows at that moment if it is or not.

I'm in Japan where alcoholism seems to be the norm. They didn't give me any advice except ' cut down on your drinking '. I'm worried now that they didn't take my issue seriously. I will see how I feel in the morning maybe I will get a second opinion.

I scared myself enough already. I cannot drink. I'm only 30, I have so many opportunities in my life I just need to start living my life. I guess this was the scare I needed.

That advice merely to "cut down" on your drinking sounds to me very casual under the circumstances. Reminds me of the lousy medical advice I used to get from time to time many many years ago. Like the doctor who wanted me to enter coeducational group therapy for sex issues because, he said, "alcoholism is caused by sex problems". I did not go forward with that and continued to drink. I'm 88 now and for various reasons would not qualify for that group but have been sober for 27 years,
