Office gift exchange

It's kind of sad but for the third year in a row I have had to avoid the office gift exchange. All it ever is anymore is people just doing white elephant gift exchanges of bottles of booze. Once again, this year I got asked why I wasn't participating. I just said I don't care for booze and that's all there ever is as gifts. Nobody questioned it so instead I went to the party, took some food and a cupcake and went back to my desk. Problem avoided! Tummy happy

Good move! The more sober experience I get under my belt I notice the same thing - people really don't question or even notice my decision to not drink. Simply "no thanks" is really almost all that is ever needed.

I like it. It demonstrates strength. No one probably says anything, but they notice, and may very well secretly admire your resolve. Well done.

Thanks everyone! It felt good to just be able to bow out and not have any question about doing so. I also didn't realize that was my 1,000th post so thanks melki for pointing that out.

Yes. This. It was all about the booze at our Yankee swap today. I ended up with a hot chocolate kit with a few nips to go with it. Ugh. Maybe I'll re gift next year. Sitting it out sounds like a good idea

We do a secret Santa/ White elephant at work too but we don't swap alcohol or anything edible. The rules are to find something goofy or/and interesting and not to spend more than 10 bucks on it.
A bottle of booze is pretty generic and does not take much thoughts. It's tougher to find something cool and unigender for under 10 bucks LOL
Ours will be this Sunday and I am buying a Maneki Neko.
You did absolutely the right thing Zeldafan and I second Soberpotamus: Good going on snatching a cupcake!
