Finding today very hard and I have only been awake an hour
Slept horrible last night 2nd night without anything to drink... Woke up this morning and dreading the entire day... Dreading the thoughts in my head, the commitments that I have made, the fact I have to go and talk to my dr about what's really going on...... And the fact that my son can't find a matching sock and just needs me to help him feels completely overwhelming ..... And I've been awake only one hour... This is when I want a drink when I feel overwhelmed and can't cope with what I know the day will bring.. I'm not going to have that drink though..
First of all, congrats on making it through 2 nights free of alcohol. Hang in there. Take a deep breath. Stick close to SR and post often. You can do this.... one day at a time. It does get easier with each passing day.
You're bound to get grumpy, you've just quit drinking. But actually it's a reason to feel really positive! Maybe take a few minutes to get some peace and calm down. Definitely talk to the doctor 😀
You can do this.

I can really relate to your post. Things are so overwhelming. Being oversensitive and anxious is so hard but you know what? I know it can be hard to accept, but try and just smile at the fact you haven't drank and you're on day 3. I'm on day 4 and I know I just have to RIDE THIS OUT. It will get better but if we drink today it's going to be so much worse. Hang in there. Breathe. There will be a stage today that things ease up and you will be glad you have stayed sober and won a big battle.
With you in this all the way,

All you have to do is get through this day. Don't focus on tomorrow. Just go to bed sober tonight. Keep yourself busy so you don't have time to think about drinking. Before you know it, you'll be almost 2 months in like me, and years like others here. One day at a time.

The longer you can do the second part, the shorter the first part will become.
We hear so often that it gets better with time.
It does.
The more days you can string together without a drink, the fewer days that feeling of being overwhelmed will occur. It's true.
No matter what, get through those feelings and don't drink. In time, and you won't even notice it, it gets a lot easier - as long as you can 'not have that drink'.
Fantastic job on making it through two days Bettalife. The early days are the toughest. Just keep telling yourself it gets easier with each minute that passes.
Stay strong and lean on us as much as you need to get you through. See yourself waking up tomorrow with another sober day under your belt.
Trust me, you won't regret the decision to not drink.

Well done on making it through the 2nd night. That one is always the worst for me. I remember after months and months and months of hard drinking, I finally decided on the 2nd or 3rd day sober to see my doctor. I was really nervous and walked out feeling a million times better. He was completely understanding, offered lots of support options and other things that we can't discuss on the forums due to medical rules. Having just went through a few days of relapse last week, I've actually scheduled another appointment. I think you going to see your doctor is going to help a lot. Stay strong!
