Made it through today
Made it through today
Well I've made it through today without alcohol. I need to now come up with a plan as some of you have suggested. Husband is on board with me which is good because I know I don't have to drink when he does, but just seems I don't have the will power. Probably gonna skip the Christmas party- husband agreed we really don't have the extra money it would cost to go. Just wanted to check in. I know I can do this. I know I have to do this. My life depends on it.
I was doing so good before. I was sober all of August and September - can't remember the last time I was sober that long before that, probably when I was a teenager. And then my friend hosted a party for our duel birthdays and thought I was strong enough to only drink that night. Boy was I wrong. I need to remember that I've been sober before and can do it again. And not get comfortable in my sobriety thinking that I'll be able to drink someday. Alcohol and me don't mix very well. Alcohol cannot be a part of my life. And trying to separate it from my life is difficult.
Jillian, I'm glad you're doing well, and yeah, being complacent is a recipe for trouble, isn't it! It sounds like you're making good choices about the Christmas party and talking with your husband. And, I understand completely how you feel about removing alcohol from your life. I couldn't imagine getting through a day without alcohol. Have you read 'Drinking: A Love Story' by Caroline Knapp?
Hi, Jillian; it's so nice to see you back.

Thanks Leigh and Dee, I have read a few of the links and plan going back to read more.
This week at work is Holiday Spirit week. They decided to do this in lieu of a Christmas party as there were many layoffs last month. Yesterday I won two tickets to The Fox Theatre in ATL for Jingle Jam. The performers were Andy Grammer, Pentatonix and NEEDTOBREATHE. This would've been a great show for my son to see but only had two tickets. So we sent him to his friends (neighbors) and headed on down to Atlanta.
Parking in midtown can cost up to $50! Knowing this and only having $46, we decided to split a sub and fries for dinner. We went to the ATM and got cash because in past experiences, the parking lots only take cash.
We found a parking lot that was only $5 and had a pay box! Score! Well we get to pay box and guess what? They only accept Visa/MC! So we asked the guy in front of us if he would use his card for us and we would give him cash. He told us he needed to run into the store for macaroons and would be right back and could have his ticket for free. He came running back (hurrying for us!) and gave us his parking ticket. Such a nice guy.
We were late to the show but still in time to see
Pentatonix and NEEDTOBREATHE. The Fox Theatre is so beautiful and the sound is great! It was my first time there and definitely a venue i'd go back to. It's the only venue in ATL that I've been where the sound was great! I guess because it is a theatre after all.
We went to the concession and there was talk of getting beer. I mean, we've never been to ATL and not gotten beer. But as we are looking over the menu and the $8 beers, we counted our money and I guess you could say, "played the tape". We had $33 left now and $16 would go to two beers! I told hubby "yeah and when we leave you know we will want more and then feel like crap tomorrow AND broke". We both agreed on a bottomless souvenir cup and popcorn (still $13!). We were that close to getting beer and I'm so happy we both agreed and were on the same page. We didn't get to bed til around 11:30 but who cares when you're sober right? It's 7am, awake and feel great!
