The Stare Down.... dun dun dun!
I should have got on here sooner. Before it came to this.
I had a bad day today and the next thing I know I'm home with alcohol. I've found myself sitting at the kitchen table staring down a unopened bottle like a boxer staring down his opponent at the weigh in.
I feel certain I'm not the only one to be in this situation. Just looking for advice and support.
Thank You

Get rid of the bottle, vendetta; drinking it will only make this day and tomorrow so much worse.
I am truly sorry for your bad day.
You can talk about it here; we're listening and in your corner
We are here for YOU.

Vendetta,
Whenever I got in the ring with alcohol, I always ended up on the losing side.
Even if you "win" the stare down and don't drink you will still be mentally exhausted and in a bad state of mind.
Just dump the booze, treat yourself to something yummy and watch a movie you enjoy or do something which helps you relax.
Do you want to share with us what happened to you today which has you so upset that you are considering drinking?
Come on dump the booze, it will not make today's day any better and it will probably make tomorrow a bad day too

You know you you'll feel like crap after getting drunk and waking up in the middle of trying to sleep. Knowing that could I could lose everything I've worked for if i get caught drinking keeps me sober (probation, dui) but anyone could lose everything by drinking, no dui required.
The guilt and feeling ill tomorrow will override any bit of pleasure you will get from that bottle. The thought of drinking is always much better then the actual act (I found this anyway) - throw that bottle away. You are only torturing yourself by keeping it there. You will be grateful in the morning.

I've thought about calling a friend or family member but everybody is out enjoying the weekend. The last thing they need is me pulling them down cause I'm feeling sorry for myself.
I've done that before and they are always nice but I always get the feeling they don't get it and I'm bothering them.
It's crazy how hard it is for me to pour out booze. I can walk away from it, put it away in a cabinet. But pouring it out is just too hard.

So great you posted...cover your nose, open the bottle and pour it down the drain.
Take care of HALT...Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired...addressing those things can help right now to deal with the desire/cravings.
Tell your addictive voice that you are back in control and to get lost.

Vendetta, this voice is not you. It's your freaking addictive voice (the AV) and it is also the one which makes it difficult to get rid of the alcohol.
Now the voice is speaks for the primitive part of your brain (the beast) which wants to feel good at all time. It has no true power, just the power you give it when you listen to it.
It does not control your motor faculties. Try the following, move your fingers... you can do it right?
Now tell the AV to move your fingers and see if it can.
It can't.
Dump the booze and also look up Dee's urge surfing posts

I would also advise not to keep booze in the house or in the garage.
Since I am single and I don't drink I keep an alcohol free home. There is no reason for a non drinker to have alcohol at hand.

It was hard for me to pour the booze out too.
After all it was expensive, and I didn't want to waste money.....but down the drain it went! And that felt good!
Better to waste money than waste yourself.......
