I hate alcohol

Hello ALL! I haven't posted in awhile!

I do hate alcohol or anything that has the potential to have control over my life. I wanna drink and not worry about the complications but I can't and it's pissing me off. Alcohol is all around me, I can't find one damn person who doesn't drink, besides the ones I know on here who have remained sober. I'm irritated, and it's coming up on the 5 year anniversary of my husbands death on the 23rd. I need to stay sober, but I'm not sure I can. I just don't know, my coping skills suck!

Thanks for listening

I'm sorry that you're having a tough time, lilgolden73. I imagine the holidays coinciding with the anniversary of your husband's death only makes it harder. But I'm glad to see you back around SR! Hang in there, you can do it.

Hi Lola - welcome back :)

I think the bottom line is we have to put a little more effort into not drinking as we would into drinking.

You don't post here very much anymore - what else do you do for your recovery?

I'm sorry for your sadness and I know the day will be painful...but why make the day even sadder and painful by wiping yourself out?

You're a mom aren't you? What about your kids?
How do they handle the day?

do you think they might need their mom too?

Use the very real love I know you have for them to see you through.

I'm sorry this loss weighs so heavy on you...have you considered counselling at all - either for you, or all of you together?

D

Yes,

I'm a mom...sigh! I only have one left at home. The other 2 are grown, 1 just got married (bridezilla) and my son just became a cop...lord help me.

Counseling, for sure! I need someone to erase my memories, like in that movie..."Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind", such is life, I'll live.

Thanks!

Welcome back Lola!! :)

I used to think everyone drank too, but that's because I only hung out with or had made loads of friends that drank, because that's how I met them, or I would go to places that only served alcohol.

But after a while I discovered what I enjoyed or liked to do, new hobbies, new interests, and those activities came with people that did things without the need for alcohol, or people who didn't drink.

You can do this, hang in there!!

It's not about erasing memories tho, it's about living with them, and getting through pain and sadness, I think.

If you haven't considered it before, why not consider it now. It beats the heck out of drinking :)

Must you make sense ? Hahaha! I'll look into it!

It'd be a shame to lose five years. Stay strong.

Hi Lola,

I am so sorry for your grief. It must make the holidays very difficult for your family. I hope you get through it without picking up a drink.

I understand the "everyone I know drinks" thing. But this forum is a tremendous help to me. I am still fairly close to my drinking friends, and honestly seeing or hearing about their drunk shenanigans - mind you - we are middle (or slightly beyond) aged women - only reinforces my desire to stay sober! They are practically a form of pyschological antibuse for me! But yes, the ones that can only have a couple of drinks and quit pisses me off, too because I wish I had that off button. But we don't. When you really think about it though, we could be aflicted with much worse than a broken alcohol off-switch.
