Why can I not take my own advice?
It went exactly as everyone said it would and completely contrairy to all of my worries. We got out menus and he opened the wine list and said "would you like some white wine?" And I said "no thank you" and that was that!
Ha, brilliant!
One of the big surprises with giving up drinking is discovering how most people won't even notice. I've been on a course that just finished and we went to the pub for a quick drink afterwards to celebrate. I'd been worried about having to explain why I wasn't drinking but of the 6 of us, 4 of us ordered cranberry and soda, and only two had a glass of wine. Nobody said a word about it. I was probably the only one who noticed.

Oh and by the way, the meal was amazing! So delicious. It is such a treat for me to go to nice restaurants, it is one of my favorite things to do.
I also am a big stickler for etiquette and manners. I try to teach my boys how to behave properly and really just enjoy and appreciate what are now very old-fashioned ways of doing things. I know times have changed and I get along just fine day to day. In fact my boyfriend (god, I do love him) is an animal! My manners get on his nerves and his lack of manners get on mine but we make it work.
In any case, this older man was obviously schooled in the classic way and it is just a real pleasure to be in the company of someone like that- knowing how to behave at the table, standing when I excused myself to the restroom and when I returned, helping me with my coat.
The sad thing is that my manners meant very little when I was a drunk. All the right usage of forks in the world could not make up for being sloppy and slurring at the table. Thankfully I am back to acting the way I want to now, elegant and composed. Even my boyfriend is putting up with my gentle suggestions not to slurp his food now that I am sober hehe!

Not sure if all the stress was completely for naught, a no pain no gain twist comes to mind. Building sober muscle isn't without some stress. Smashing the the AV's ridiculous idea that our dining companions , and perhaps a fair majority of the other patrons, would let out a collective gasp and demand an explanation as to our beverage choice by experiencing the exact opposite is kind of 'cemented' in by all the stress of forethought. Now 'been there, done that' can be applied going forward, yes? Sober muscle

Hi Mera .
Glad everything worked out ; ulcers are caused by mountaineering over molehills , keep it nice and simple .
For future reference just inform your boss that you are ''following a new life style '' which does not include alcohol .

My reply at times to that question is
no thank you I'm not drinking today.
I don't need to mention that I haven't drank for many days now.
