Day One - Again

Hi all, Its been a while since I was on here. I had about 6 months sober under my belt and then foolishly thought I was somehow going to be a different person when i drank. I am back to drinking heavily two or three times a week. I woke up today and the wife said she wants me to stop again. I actually see this as a good thing because the last time I stopped I think she thought I was being over-dramatic about my alcoholism, but now clearly sees that I cannot control my drinking.

I hope you will see me on here a lot. - Dave

Day One - November 27th, 2015.

Good job Dave. It is weird how the mind can play tricks, meaning you can drink like a normal person since you have quit before. I describe it like I have an angel on one shoulder and a demon on the other shoulder, which they often fight . When I give in to the demon, it always goes bad....don't have much time trying to get it right.

Good luck Dave, newbie myself but reading about such experiences and having stopped a few times (albeit more for fitness) makes it clear to me that there is no such thing as moderation for those in our situation and gives me the focus to realise that there is no option other than complete abstinence and not to allow that thought that I'm ok now as I've done 1 / 2 / 6 / 12 months or more - as you say it will inevitably only ever revert to problem drinking.

Welcome back Dave! Day 1 is something to be proud of, as it is the first step to your new life!

Day One - November 27th, 2015.

Welcome back! If you see the post I put up Thursday night, it's always best to come and talk to friends and read through posts on here when you feel like you could end up back at day one! It's really helped me.

You can do this!
