One week on I found the empties and a Full

Hi all ,

Its been a week and a day since my last drink .

Yesterday when I was looking for my winter boots in various cupboards I found 3 empty wine bottles and 1 full can of beer . I laid them on my dresser and sat looking and thinking just how insane I was only a week ago compared to now . Especially finding the full can . The relationship to that can is a million miles apart in one short week . If I had found it one week ago I would have been so happy and have drunk it down for one minute of relief and a very brief glow then it would have been back to the horrors of withdrawal , one stupid 500ml can of beer I mean what the hell good is it .
Today I look at that can with the full range of negative feelings : shame , guilt, disgust, anger , disgrace etc etc .
I don't try to hide the empties or the full can from the family but rather I decide to show them and offer my apologies and express my disgrace and regret at myself . They offer comfort and forgiveness and I privately shed a tear for them and one for me .

Went out for a lovely Chinese buffet yesterday for our 37th anniversary and was so happy all that I am back on the sober road .

Thanks for listening

T

Congrats Thomas, you did the right thing. And a 37th anniversary, that's really commendable. I'm sure you had a great time but think how much better the 38th will be.

congrats on your week and 37 years, next year celebrate a year and 38 years...
I was finding bottles I hid after six months... and empties throughout the yard when summer arrived...

Thomas, congrats on your sobriety!

Congrats on your anniversary! Sobriety will only make your 38rh year more sweet.

I found empties, looooots of empties. At first it found it very shameful. But after a while, it was just a lesson in why I'm not drinking anymore. It turned me into a bottle hiding nut job. after two years, I cleaned out my basement and found even more empties. I just shook my head and laughed.

You will probably find more. But it gets easier. For me it got kinda funny. If i don't find it for two years, dang I was good at hiding it!
