I'm in a dark place
I hope a bed opens up for you soon, yellowhammer. SR is a good and welcoming community and has helped greatly in my recovery. I know what seizures and detox are like and I know you can do this!

Thank you. I will get a bed. I'm really hoping this place can admit me in the morning because it's an actual detox/rehab with follow-up programs. If they can't, I'll find one that can, or worse comes to worse, check back into the ER and get detoxed there. My first priority is to get this stuff out of me safely. I used to look down on junkies for blaming everything on withdrawals. Who's laughing now? Alcohol isn't any better.
keep on 'em, yellowhammer... every day... twice, three times a day.
be sure you stay committed and show them you want this.
in the meantime, if you can find an AA meeting nearby.... consider going. Get a Big Book. Start reading it.
You can passively 'wait' - or you can start working on recovery RIGHT NOW.
It sounds like you're going to need medical support to detox and I commend you for owning up to it and asking for help.
While you wait for it - why not go ahead and get a running start on the other parts of recovery.
Welcome.

Welcome Yellowhammer. I remember when I told my wife about my day drinking. I felt so worthless and defeated... my every waking moment centered around drinking or obsessing about drinking.
Bottom line, you can make this change in your life. As a father of two, I will tell you everything improves once you break this cycle. Life is never easy, but it is so much more rewarding and manageable when you are in control. For 21 years I wasn't in control... now I am.
You can do this. SR has been my only support for recovery, we are in your corner.
Lean on us as much as you can or need.

Yellowhammer....good for you to have a back up plan in case a bed doesn't become available soon. As you say, you need to detox safely and the sooner the better...the ER is a very good thought.
Courage my friend....

OK, update! I got into detox a few hours after my last post. Unfortunately, my insurance only covered the detox and 14 days of rehab, from which I was released this morning. On the bright side: I'm 18 days sober, I'm motivated, I feel great, I'm falling asleep with no problems, and I'm eating like a horse. I'll just have to take a very proactive approach to my early recovery as I don't have the benefit of being locked in a facility, but that's ok. I'm going to look into getting into an intensive out-patient program tomorrow (pretty exhausted tonight). I'm pretty sure I will be doing a lot of venting and support seeking on this board and I'm glad I found it.
Congratulations!
Going to detox and treatment saved me. I'm glad I was able to stay a full month, but at eighteen days you've got a great leap into sobriety still. I also had really, really frightening withdrawals. It was such a relief to feel physically safe after detoxing. I'm so grateful those programs exist!
Welcome to the other side! You can do it! I think IOP is a great idea.

Yes. It feels even better than I thought it would to not have that demon every morning. I almost jump out of bed every morning, amazed that I feel good and rested and not sweaty and shaky. I know I have a lot of hard work ahead of me but right now I'm enjoying the moment.
Great to have you back and 18 days sober, yellowhammer! That's a great start. It's great to see that you're motivate to keep going. Keep checking in here; this place has been a lifesaver for me. There's always someone to share some wisdom and a caring word.
Stay well,

Hard work yes. But it is so totally worth it dude. You are 18 days, now 19 days, clean. The physical part is behind you. You are battling that mental part and you are WINNING. Just keep winning the small battles that you will face each day and you will win the war. Its a lifetime war, I think, but in the end you will fight battles far less frequently as time goes on. Congrats on your progress and just keep plowing through.
Keep yourself busy with things that you enjoy. Keep your mind, hands and soul busy. Good luck. We are all rooting for you.
