Day 7 minus

It was a long day, drove over 8 hours round trip to see S/O and go to the range. Finally got home and decided one glass of wine was good. Since I know that it is psychological not physical, I thought I was ok. No ice in the red wine to make it go down easier, no hard liquor. I'm savoring my one, praying I'm strong enough not to polish off the bottle.

Does this make me stupid, or real?

You are still in the clutch of your addiction. You decide what that makes you.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish or prove, that this one time you do not have a problem?

This is like Russian Roulette, maybe this time you will be fine but maybe not next so why play the game.

Uh oh!!

You might be like me, sometimes I'm fine and moderate, then I'll convince myself I'm just fine, until the next blackout nightmare gong show.....
I found it doesn't mean its ok because you can moderate once in a while.
Take care and be careful

If you have enough determination pour the remainder down the drain, you'll at least feel better about the incident in the morning by taking control of the situation now.

Have you ever heard of addiction ambivalence? Learning about it gave me some perspective and insight into things I was going through.
Wish you well

you are so right. I thought since I skipped the beer at lunch with my S/O when he had one, I could have 1 glass of wine. One became 2 and not it is SPRITE over ice. I would so love to finish the bottle. An earlier post suggested dumping it but I think it is stronger to let it sit.

I totally know that logic.
If I made it a week without wine, or I moderated well, surely it was ok to get blackout drunk!!

I don't think it's stronger to let it sit. Letting it sit means you are keeping it around for a reason. Or not, your call, but I vote for 'weakness' and pour it out, get some water and rest.
It's the best recipe for a good morning , wish you well

In my experience the toughest thing this alcoholic had to do was dump the booze not drunk.

keeping it around just means it's there for the next time you feel weak.

I don't think you're stupid, but I do think you're letting your addiction dictate to you here Raeven.

Well, I did that sort of thing for years. Finally realized it was futile and too much work to try and control it. At some point you'll probably come to the same conclusion. In the meantime, good luck and stay safe.

it makes you real in real drinkland.

really in real grip of going there again.

makes you real in the real denial that what really matters is that you throw yourself into a "test" against the rest of the booze, when what is really real is the fact that you really went back to drinking.

there is no day 7 minus.
what's real is that you're drinking.

It doesn't make you stupid, but it appears you have misinterpreted the purpose of this website. I see this website (and this particular section) as a place for people who have a desire to stop their addiction NOT to moderate it. You need to dump the rest of the bottle. Saying it is stronger to let it sit sounds like your AV is doing the talking.

Hello,

I don't think you are weak or stupid.

But I do hope that one day you read this post and give thanks that you don't think like this anymore.

Best wishes

Fradley

Hi Raeven - I fell for that one too. I can just about guarantee that thinking you'll be able to somehow moderate will ultimately end very unpleasantly.

Hoping for the best for you
