Smile Sober For My Niece

So I heard my 16 year old niece came over to use my computer while I was at work and she was all smiles when she saw some sobriety books on my desk. I now feel that I really have to do the recovery and maintenance part and keep up with it. Oh my baby niece! I've missed baking cookies with her and having slumber parties, but I've become no longer fun to her. I'm trying to get that back. I've got to get it back for me as well. I've missed myself. She's involved in so many sports, plays, dances and what not and I've only been to 2 out of 10 of them sober. I wanna change that. I can change that.

Sounds like things are moving in the right direction CurlyGirl. And you are correct..you do need to do the work on recovery and keep up with it. The rewards are many, looks like you are already seeing some.

CurlyGirl1978, quiting for your niece is as good a reason as any. If you can get through one minute, you can get through another. Believe you can, goin on 6 years sober after being a drunk for 40+ years, rootin for ya.

There are many types of "spiritual awakenings" - my opinion is you just came in contact with one!!!

Great post - being engaged and present in life of others and not just reading about loved ones events on facebook.......

I'm glad you're motivated to stay sober. Just continue, with patience, and things between you and your niece should get better and better.
