Alcohol is free, but sparkling water will cost ya.

Traveling this week and stayed in a hotel where they stocked up a full bar, with full size bottles of spirits and wine, in your room. Gratis.

Called for a refill on the sparkling water and I was charged.

Flying today and the club at the airport had free liquor and wine and beer.

Perrier ?

$4.00

Shaking my head.

Healthier choices (organic food) often cost more.

I never thought it would go this far though!

I suspect the minibar in the hotel wasn't "free"--they bill you after they see what has been consumed. You got charged for the water because you called and ordered it.

And I'd be willing to bet there were soft drinks for free at the airport club, too--maybe not Perrier, if that isn't one of their featured beverages, but club soda, Coke, ginger ale, etc., I'm sure were available for free.

I had no problem shelling out whatever the asking price was for alchohol in the old days. I'd gladly pay 4 bucks for a water if that was the only option in the circumstance ;-)

I laugh when I see how much I spend on club soda now. But I tell you what, after a day watching football and finishing a 12 pack, I still feel great and that's what matters.

I needed that laugh today. Thank you!!! But ridiculous at the same time. Can't wait to be charged for air.

I'm aware of how most mini bars work. This was not like that. There was a gratis bar in the room. With top shelf liquor.

It's one of their "wow" factors.

Sounds to me more like an "oy vey" factor.

I've never heard of such a thing.

I've been to many events and hotels where both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages were free of charge. I hope your experience was just an anomaly Alpha because giving away booze, but charging for non-alcoholic drinks is grossly unfair to non-drinkers.

BTW, good on you for staying strong. I could handle a mini-bar with alcohol because I would only see it when I opened the door to get soda or juice. But full bottles would be hard to deal with. I would have to either hide them out-of-sight or cover them with a towel or sheet.

"Wow factor" worked. As in "wow! That's stupid!" But I guess they're counting on drunk money in other ways?

I'm super cheap now that I'm not drunk. I drink water out of the tap at hotels.
