First Night Out after Stopping

Tonight was my first time out after stopping drinking. (I'm on Day 13.) I met some friends for dinner, which really turned out to be for lots of drinks and dinner. There were two of us who didn't drink, but everyone else drank a TON. Lots of margaritas and shots. I didn't drink at all, wasn't even tempted, and I feel great!! So excited!!

You'll feel even better in the morning waking up fresh and rested and hangover free! Nice job!

Excellent to hear. It gets better the further out you get too. I'm in day 102 of sobriety and realize that I can't avoid such situations, so I tend to go with what makes me comfortable. I'm not tempted, nor do I crave a drink when being out in such situations. In fact, I'm grateful that when I wake up in the morning, I'll be feeling pretty good - not regretting anything, not having a splitting headache and still having some money left in my wallet, too!

Great job! Today is only my 4th sober day. It's strange. I didn't really crave the alcohol as much as I craved the ritual. I called my sponsor to say hi and went early to my sons pizza party. No wine....only water. The thoughts passed and it's all good!

That's an awesome feeling, isn't it! I'm one day ahead of you at day 14, so I'm a real veteran, Lol. It's such an eye opening experience seeing everyone act drunk when you're stone-cold sober. Great job, keep it up!

Congrats on staying proudly sober.

Having alcohol alter my brain chemistry doesn't even make sense any more. I don't know why I drank for so many years doing that to myself. It feels amazing being fully functional.

It was something to see them all getting lit! Funny at first, but then it got boring as time went on.

You know, I don't think I've ever NOT drunk in a situation like that before. Sad but true.

But this morning, I feel great! I had a great night's sleep, and I think I'll hit the gym this morning!

Dobie, first of all, congrats!
Secondly, did they try to twist your arm or at least politely ask you if you wanted a drink, and if so, what was your reply? I always am interested in seeing how newly sober (or vets) folks resist drink offers.

Oh yeah, they did when the shots came out. They wanted everyone at the table to have one (except for my non-drinking friend because he's Mormon, and everyone knows he doesn't drink). I said "No thanks, I'm not drinking." These friends know me pretty well, so they know that I usually drink (although I would not have ever done shots because I hate them). I got raised eye brows and more questioning, so I told them that I've decided not to drink anymore. They did ask why, and I told them that I decided I've been drinking too much so decided to quit altogether. They smiled, said "good for you," and stopped pushing me. It was really quite easy, and I was grateful.

That's really great! I hope I'll be saying this in 13 days (I'm new). Seems so hard when everyone is drinking!
