Trying the online thing

Hello, I'm new to the online recovery support thing, really I'm new to the support thing as a whole. I've been sober for a little over 18months after years and years of headaches, guilt, and remorse from heavy drinking. I've been successful on this third attemp to quick drinking, still struggling with it though and surprised how much I think about drinking still, everyday without fail. It's amazing how my brain tries to remove all the horrible memories I have of drinking and replaced them with only the fondest and most fun experiences of drinking. I feel very alone in sobriety, I have from the beginning, I hear about the millions of Americans that don't drink because of an issue but apparently they don't live anywhere near me! Thanks and I look forward to what this may lead too.

Welcome. Well only we obsess about drinking. Most people are content with one or two every once in a while. That doesn't work for me and since the consequences of not stopping at one or two for me are too great, I made the decision to not have that first one. I wouldn't be happy with one or two.

I can still be around people who drink, and I don't have to be the one who gets sick any more. Win!

Congrats on your sober time FDNelly and welcome

what other changes have you made to your life besides not drinking?
I really had to build a new sober life, cos my old one was all about drinking?

I can be around people who drink now too, and it's hard but not because it makes me want to drink but because it has no appeal to me anymore, that atmosphere. All my friends drink and drink a lot, it's all anyone seems to do for fun. Guess I need to make new friends. Thanks for the reply.

Hi Dee74, thanks for the reply. I've made a few changes aside from not drinking, I've really begun to concentrate on my health and started working out a lot, that helps with the anxiety and depression that seemed to set in once I quit. Definitely see the need to build a new sober life though, the old one does not fit anymore.

18 months is wonderful. It is funny to me how often I read posts confirming just what I've thought or done. You've found a good place for support and a sounding board.

I like to think about the concept of new LIFE...and that is what you have as a sober person. Yeah, fitness is a real boost so good job! Keep it up and welcome to SR.
