Borderline Personality

I posted this in a different forum area, but thought I'd add it here too..

Does anyone have Borderline Personality and alcohol addiction?

I've heard the two are linked, well, Borderline Personalities often abuse substances.
My boyfriend is an alcoholic and has been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder in the past (around age 21).
I was looking for any stories of how people managed their BPD in their sobriety? Regulated their emotions in order to handle stresses better.

Thanks in advance

Most psychological disorders are easier to treat sober. While there may be a link, keep in mind that BPD is a distinct disorder and must be treated appropriately, just like any other disorder. Is he seeing someone for it?

He has an art therapist who is rubbish. She just listens and nods.

I brought him a Dialectual Behavioutal Therapy book as I heard that's the best for BPD. I just wanted someone who can give their own experience of BPD and staying sober. Perhaps once he is sober and back on track he can join here and talk to any other BPD folk for advice (it's hard for non-BPD people to understand I think)

From my own experience, mental health issues can only be properly addressed sober
