First post

Hi all, i have been observing on the sidelines for some time but this is my first post. It's hard to admit I have a problem with drinking but the embarassment of getting so drunk is worse. I dont drink every day, probably only once every couple of weeks but when i do i drink out of control and usually cant remember everything that happened. I dont know why i cant just have a few drinks with friends, i think i need to stop. Just about all of my friends drink socially so its hard to imagine not meeting for a drink.

Welcome!!

Congratulations on stepping up and opening up!!

Sounds to me like you have very similar experiences to a lot of us.

Choosing sobriety has enriched my life. It wasn't easy, but it got easier and it got better.

Now when I go out with friends or attend events or in any other way live my life - I enjoy and live and remember it.

No hangovers, no shame, no regrets....

Hi and welcome.

I’d suggest sticking around and reading a lot of posts and try to identify rather than comparing.

Alcoholism comes in many flavors and we can easily say this or that hasn’t happened to me YET:
You’re Eligible Too.

Best results often happen early on.

BE WELL

Welcome!

I, too, observed on the sidelines and now that I've joined SR I can't describe how supportive people are on this site.

As FreeOwl said your story is similar to many of us and we understand.

So glad you're taking steps to enjoy life free of alcohol! I'm right there too!

Thanks for all your welcomes. Its been a bit of a rough day but hoping this feeling of not wanting to drink again stays with me. The support here feels really good. I am currently living in a foreign country and there are no meetings here. It feels good to talk to people who understand without having to feel so much shame and embarassment. Thanks again!

I know one of the big things for me in recovery has been to learn to forgive myself - and others. I have a sticky note in my bathroom which says just that.

My past is my past: moving forward alcohol free I have a lot fewer regrets.

Welcome to the site, asdf

Welcome, and you will always be able to find support here.

I think most of us thought we couldn't imagine life without alcohol. But, it's surprising how your perspective can change after being in recovery for awhile. There are so many good things t!hat come from a sober lifestyle

Hi and welcome asdf72

Like others have said most of us had trouble imagining a life without alcohol.

I'm glad I stuck with it tho - I could never have dreamed how much better life could be sober

I had to make a lot of changes to my life as it was - but it really was all worth it
