Going to try this again...
Well, I haven't been here in quite a while, but I'm going to give it a go again. I've been struggling for a while now. Drinking every evening, first a few beers, then onto the wine. Another thing is that when I drink, I'm smoking cigarettes like a chimney, though I can go all day without smoking. Really tired of feeling like garbage, and really sick of the fact that when I drink I'm not doing anything. I'm fairly creative, playing guitar or doing some art work, and I love the outdoors, fishing, hunting, paddling, but the last two years I've lost a lot of ambition. The financial aspect is big as well, but right now I'm concerned about the inevitable health issues that come with all the drinking. Trying day one of giving it all up. I've gone five weeks in the past, but I always end up back here. Just looking for a little support. Thanks and hope everyone is doing good!
Hi Fishhead, have you thought about why you drink in the evening, and come up with a plan to change your habit?
You can try 'white knuckling' but you'll find it tiring. I used a few basic changes and substitutions to cope with cravings that started at my after-work drinking time. I had got to the point where I associated relaxation with alcohol so I built up some kick-arse tea drinking rituals instead. Also walked a bit, and made sure I didn't get too hungry.
Hope you nail it this time.

Welcome back Fishhead
I think FeelingGreat is onto something - maybe this time you need to think about what you might do differently to make this a permanent change, rather than aiming to do what you did last time?

Welcome back Fishhead!!
Coming up with a plan for that 5 week hurdle is the way forward, wishful thinking and hoping I'll make it never worked, instead I needed some proactive decision making, a change to my routines, my activities, whatever it was to make Sobriety happen!!
You can do this, but nothing changes if nothing changes!!

Come along with us October newbies and re-newbies, FH. I read and re-read the excellent info and advice passed out from people who know "how" to stay stopped. If I do some of what they say, I know have a chance at real change.
