Gift of Wine
8 days in today 😀... Today is the Homecoming Dance. My neighbor called and begged me to do her daughters hair for the dance (I'm a hairstylist) of course I said Yes! Well as payment what does she bring me? A bottle of wine . They weren't 30 seconds out the door and I had the bottle open and promptly dumped it all down the drain. I felt kind of bad for wasting it but I didn't feel like I had any other choice.
I'm going to have to find some way of getting the word out that I am not drinking, just not sure how.
Have a great night everyone!!!

I think you definitely made the right choice on the wine
Trying to find the right words to tell people can be hard in the beginning cos I think we all have this idea in our head that everyone drinks...and that alcohol is as important for others as it was for us (it's not ).
Eventually I just got tired of trying to word things in certain ways, and now I just say I don't drink/anymore

Kudos for dumping the wine, Opie.
I didn't put the word out when I stopped drinking; very few people commented when I ordered an iced-tea, a soda, or a water. Most people really didn't care if I drank or not.
People will soon see you as a non-drinker.

It's tough being new to this thing.
Hopefully she doesn't ask you how you liked the wine...
Good thing for getting rid of it, but she still sees you as someone who accepted the wine so don't be surprised in the future...
In time you will learn that it is better to say no thank you I gave it up - for whatever reason - and just politely refuse it. Then you might get some cookies instead...
