Progress

Yesterday was my last day at a position after getting a no fault of my own demotion. I cleaned up my office, said sad goodbyes to my employees and was getting ready to go back to my old position next week. Needless to say, last night I was super bummed about the work issue, and still a little bitter about not getting the position. As i was going home, I seriously considered going to my local pub and having one last night of drinking my sorrows away. I have today and tomorrow off, so not like it would have affected my work.

However, instead, I had dinner with a friend, went home early, watched some TV and then fell a sleep. I am heading up north today for an event this weekend, and I am SO HAPPY that I did not succumb to my base level need to drink. If I did, I would be feeling horrible today and scared that I could not control my urges.

I feel good.

Congratulations! That's a major life event... not drinking over it is such a powerful thing to do for yourself. You just put down a big sturdy foundation brick in your sobriety.

Yeah I do feel more powerful not drinking over it. Back in the day, I'd be the guy crying to the bartender about my woes.

But I think not waking up with a hangover and guilt is what makes me feel even stronger.

Well that and taking my work lumps like a man, and not acting like a Winey baby.

Yeah exactly! I feel that way too. Every time I get through something difficult without drinking, and almost immediately see how much better I feel and how glad I am I didn't give in, it reinforces me for the next time.

Proud of you for making it over that hurdle, Jt. Each time we rise above a problem without caving, we grow stronger. :)
