And hopepraylove and Aiko, thanks for your posts.......you CAN free yourself of the hold that drinking has claimed. I'm only now coming to realize what that freedom means in my own life and I quite like it. Wishing you the very best!

Thanks so much courage. I'm curious about this next year. I recently had lunch with my sister (she's 18 years sober) and she reminded me, as you have, to not take sobriety for granted and begin to entertain thoughts that things would be somehow different if I drank again. She told me that she doesn't think of drinking often, but has no doubt that if she did it wouldn't be long before things would be out of hand again.
I know that's true for me too. One of the most useful tools over this past year has been making myself listen to the advice of those with long-term sobriety whether or not I believed them at the time. And you know what?, eventually my evolving perspective allowed me to see the truth in what they'd said. I've been told that given the proper effort the second year of sobriety can be a year of fruition and personal growth. I want that and intend to grab it! I appreciate you and thank you for being part of my journey.
