We become good at and comfortable with what we practice.
You're right, it never ends the amount of occasions/situations that can come up in life to convince ourselves that we won't quit drinking just yet, for me it used to be the big things like birthdays, Xmas, New Years, special occasions, but then it became more subtle, a hard day at work, a good day at work, the weather is nice, and to be honest after a while that would have evolved into "I don't need an excuse to drink" and not having to justify why I was drinking to myself.
The solution? make Sobriety the normal run of things, after I stopped trying to fit myself into and around everyone else's life by drinking at these events but instead started fitting them around my new Sober lifestyle, things got a whole lot easier!!
