Welcome Kirky! This is a great site with a ton of support. Check out The Class of September 2015. I have found it very helpful!

You can do this .... take one day at a time!

For some this site may be enough.
Others may need to attend AA.
And or church.
Rehab kickstarts many.

For me at different times
it was all of the above.

What will work best for you?

Hi Kirky, the nicest thing about this forum is that I can practically gaurantee you that no one will pass judgement on you. Only help and support as you can see. Many of us have been through it all, and didn't figure it out for 30 years or more. You are very fortunate, you've recognized it at a young age. And at said, young age, forever seems like a LONG time. Try not to think of it that way, just take it piece by piece. I also agree with others in looking into what late stage alcoholics quality of life is like. Its frightening. If you are getting abusive when drunk, you will just end up pushing all your friends away anyway. Then you'll be an alcoholic who is all alone. Worst life imaginable. You CAN do it and I wish you the very best.
