Hello, some unfortunate circumstances have made me decide to get sober. I'm just trying to gauge what to expect from a first AA meeting, and I'm in an extremely heightened state of anxiety right now worried I will appear crazy. I'm thinking about going in an hour...

I haven't had a drink or done any drugs for 17 days....

I think it's important to realise that everyone either here on SR or in a meeting had a first day, we all had to start somewhere, and you might be surprised that everyone will be quite welcoming, as we've all been where you are now!!

You'll also find loads of support here on SR, great to have you onboard!!

Everyone who has been to AA (including me) had a first meeting. I found people to be welcoming there. It wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be. You don't have to speak up if you don't want to.

How did it go?

I've been to 5 or 6 meetings.

The hardest part was going through the door the first time...

After that is turned into lesson sessions w people that want to help each other and want to stay sober.

That kind of place is no where else on earth.
