Need support

Feeling a strong urge to hit the booze this afternoon. Need help fighting against it...

JP519 09-23-2015 11:21 AM

Are you at home Clare?
I know that feeling so well...try and concentrate on the fact that you never wake up the next day being happy having drank the night before but if you get through today sober you will feel immense pride in the morning

Clarebear13 09-23-2015 11:23 AM

I'm working from home today. I'd usually start drinking around now. I quit 10 days ago. It's been harder than I thought it would be

Can you get outside for a while? Do some walking, or jogging, biking something to help you get your mind off of it, and something to get your heart rate up? Doing something healthy sometimes takes that urge to drink away.

Stay strong, Clare, 10 days is incredible, you don't want to give that up believe me

JP519 09-23-2015 11:30 AM

Sounds like this is your witching hour, I find if I can get past mine 6-8 pm after coming home from work I am usually ok.

ccam1973 09-23-2015 11:33 AM

10 days is fantastic, don't give in Claire. Some good advice here already. Can you divert your attention until this urge wave passes? Go for a walk, get in the car and go for a drive to get a coffee, pick up a magazine... anything to get you through this urge.

You won't regret this decision, I promise. The longer you stay sober, the easier it is to fight these urges.

Stay strong for yourself!

Hi Clarebear!
Let's get you to the 2 week mark!
I am struggling as well. I hear it gets better with time... let's see?

JP519 09-23-2015 11:57 AM

Clare, have you tried going into the chat room?

doggonecarl 09-23-2015 12:07 PM

Good of you to come here for support before giving in to the urge. You mentioned you went to a couple of AA meetings. Did you get any numbers of fellow members? Someone you can call to help get you through this rough patch?

I tried getting in, but it seemed like no one was there. I don't know. I've never been to a chat room before
