Chicken Soup for the Alcoholic Soul
Chicken Soup for the Alcoholic Soul
As I approach 3 months of sobriety, I can't say it's been easy.....although I remain focused.
I still find that little alcoholic voice in my head telling me that I've got things under control.....but I know better.
I sit here in my office with the first bowl of homemade chicken noodle soup that I made last night.....and it's so comforting. I'm not so sure why I'm writing this....but then again, I guess I do.
During withdrawal - I'd sweat, my heart would palpitate something fierce, and my anxiety would be through the roof. My hands would shake terribly and I couldn't stomach anything except for chicken soup, usually from a can.
Now sober for 3+ months- I enjoy spending time in my kitchen as I love cooking. Steaks, pasta, different salads, etc.......but chicken soup will always be my favorite - especially when you make it from scratch, anyway you like.
This soup reminds me of the days I was very sick and thought I was going to die from this disease- but I also associate it with recovery, healing and remaining steadfast in my recovery and commitment to sobriety.
To all those suffering - pour yourself a bowl.....It's delicious.
Happy 24 everyone!

Not quite there yet Soberwolf, but I will be soon....
Thanks everyone. Sobriety is good.
Also picked up an X-box, a Buddhist Art Therapy coloring book, and an IRig2 so I can plug my guitar into my IPhone or Ipad and practice away....
Wouldn't be doing any of these things if I was still suckin' back the sauce.........

Hey congrats! I'm actually waiting for a fresh batch of chicken broth to cool so I can strain it. It's the sort of thing I rarely had the time or energy to do as a drunk. Both the food and the process of making it are so nourishing!
