Did AA work for you?

I could not agree more. I want as many tools in my bag of tricks as I can.
Bottom line to me is if we find ourselves fighting any given method - there's a good chance there's something for us to learn from that method

I don't think you can really answer that question. AA is a way of life not a magic pill or cure. I went to AA and I relapsed. I went back and figured out that that way of life wasn't for me so I took another path. As much as that angered and disappointed some people it's my journey and I make my own choices. That does not mean that others won't find their way in AA. It just means that everybody has to find their own way to find contentment with out intoxicants.
You won't know if it's for you unless you give it a shot and see what it's all about. Every new experience is a learning experience.
I see this was posted yesterday so I hope all went well.
