It can be helpful for a while.

I count years now...working on year 5.

Some count and some don't - it's a personal thing...

I counted in the beginning because every day sober was a freaking miracle.

I have no idea what day or month I'm on now tho

I like, maybe need, to count. Initially days, then weeks, then months. One day I hope to count years. It helps me.

I have an app that counts for me. If I get the urge to know, I look at it. I don't use it much anymore, I kinda go with the flow. In the beginning I counted everything! Everyday was a huge achievement.

I crossed off each day on a calendar, then each week, then month, but I stopped after a year. I found it helpful at first and it gave me a sense of achievement. I had all those crosses lined up and I didn't want to spoil it.

Personally I find it helps me to not get complacent if I continue to count the days. My last relapse I had stopped counting early on. Not going through that crap again. What ever it takes!

Yep, I remember that. Those early days are hard. Seeing the numbers grow gives us a much-needed sense of accomplishment. I think it also helps with self-accountability. As the days grew in number, I felt not only slowly growing confidence but a sense that I didn't want to throw it away.

I still count, 9 and a half months into sobriety. It's a daily ritual (like getting on SR) that helps keep my mind on my progress. I write each day's number in the morning.

I quit smoking 4 years ago. Like you, Dee, I have no idea what month or day I'm on now. I am counting the non-alcohol days. Hope I will eventually lose track of the exact day.

I read something here a few days ago that sticks in my mind, We don't count the days it's been since we last had a donut or last went to McDonalds".

I don't know the exact day I know I'm 26 months as it recently happened

My neice asked me I said 26 months she said how many days is that I said I didn't know so I went to the world famous SR sober calculator & it reaveled I'm 794 days

It's 796 today I just checked lol

I counted because like D said every day was a true miracle

I'm counting! I like to see the number grow. I use an app to do the "heavy lifting" as I don't look at it everyday.
62 days today!

I'm counting years. But only because I worked my recovery daily, one day at a time. Same as everyone else.

Actually, if I were to quit donuts or going to McDonalds (as I quit alcohol, giving a specific day), I would probably be able to tell you how long it had been.

............'n btw, for me it's been 10,679 days for me (not referring to donuts or McDonalds).

I am counting, am on day 20. I have never made it to 30 days, so I am at least counting until then.

app for me too. just checked and I'm at 515 days.

16 days is awesome. all of your days are awesome. it gets easier, I promise. I was a rock-bottom nearly dead round the clock drinker by the time I quit. life is much sweeter these days.

I do and I dont. I know my sober date so I can always reflect. I get too results oriented so counting can keep me focused on some goal. I'm trying just to be in this moment only. That works best for me.

Livingnow, 16 days sober is just FANTASTIC, congratulations. I count the days but haven't in a while, thanks for the reminder to do so. I've been sober for 1887 days. Rootin for ya.
