Joke threads
Nothing funny about that.
And I have a great sense of humor.
This is not the place for that kind of "joke"
In early recovery some folks nerves are already shot.
A resonding NO
Wow. This is an old thread. I guess it was bumped because we unfortunately still have some "comedians" out there.

I don’t mind making jokes about myself, but a couple of the threads in particular I’ve read this week show that some people really are suffering. Fine to have a laugh about other topics, but it’s insensitive to have relapse or alcohol-related jokes here.
I do think it is important to laugh, and don't like bans either.
Maybe a *trigger* warning* next to the 'joke'? Newcomers (if they choose to go in) would get to meet 'older' members who can now 'take' the joke. Maybe a rule where the jokester has to make the joke about him/herself.
I thought about a good joke about the Jokster.

Good on you EastCoast. Jokes are good.
I meant I wouldn't make Jokster jokes here. I think ok to make a joke about the joke. . OK if describing self.
There's something deeper to those jokes. About the person themselves.
Set up dialogue on the 'joke'?

I'm not sure why this thread was bumped but it refers to events from several years ago, not recent ones.
I like jokes too but I think you have to read the room/thread.
2020 me sees Newcomers as kinda like a triage and even Hawkeye Pierce rarely wisecracked there.

My humble opinion is that newbies like me are on here and their very last nerves might be worked over as they read. I am lucky and am living in Day 45 with good support. But we should be mindful of the folks on the very ragged edge reading what we post here. This is not the time, place or manner for jokes I think.

while I understand your point dee, I dont love thread titles like that but in no way do I think they need censoring/modding in any way. To me they are perfectly acceptable. Not my cup of tea but nothing wrong with it. My 2 cents anyway.
I dont find them offensive myself.
Just annoying and childish given the nature of this forum.
As Dee said, theres that heart drop moment when you read that someone youve been rooting for has fallen...
Its kind of not a nice thing to do

I enjoy nothing more than a little mirth myself but I think hiliarity should be within established guidelines. It's important that if we decide on using humour as a resource then we should take sufficent steps to ensure that we joke responsibly. I was wondering if it might not be a good idea to precede any joke with a warning beforehand.
So anyway this bloke walks into a pub and.............well maybe not.

Funny how much earlier in this thread I supported the use of such ‘jokes’. It shocked me to read my comments. 😱
Now that I’ve grown a brain can see how unthinking they are … the trivialising of something so very important.
Sobriety has had me grow as a person. And I’ve still got a sense of humour.
