Joke threads
I don't have any problem with them for the most part..there was a week where there were several!!...that got old very quick!!
I read them and I always just feel a sense of relief that there has been no relapse... that outweighs it all for me...
I remember the brewery one as well...total gotcha.. gave me a smile.

I voted no. I have lost some people dear to me to alcoholism and I relapsed after five years sober myself. Relapsing is not funny and it can have deadly consequences.
Those kind of threads can have a desensitizing impact on the readers... a bit like the little boy who cried wolf.

I don't like them at all. I always feel such a sinking feeling when I read the title of a thread about relapse that then turns out to be a joke. Relapse isn't funny. There are many here who find it very hard to get back on a sober path after relapsing.
just my opinion...

For me it reads as a reasons not to drink thread, but in reverse way.
A very helpful reminder and in very good spirits!!
I voted no, it's not the worst crime in the world but it's not funny having a laugh at the expense of somebody else's empathy
Leviathan - I remember that post, it had me suckered (LBRAIN - USA not the only country to have April Lools Day) - it was funny, the exception that proves the rule (the poster doesn't seem to post no more I notice)
I am going to say no more about it

Not a fan of the jokes from the standpoint of they come across in poor taste to me...
But I love the freedom to express ourselves as we se fit individually and I can always choose not to read or respond. The way this discussion is presented is in perfect taste and a great way to get feedback.

I haven't read the forum this past weekend but as usual have my two cents to add. I'm not a fan of the relapse joke threads.
What I have noticed, in line with what Saoutchik posted, that many of those original posters aren't posting here any longer. I believe the joke posts are to some extent as Mera said, a cry for help, whether the original poster intended it as such or not.
If someone in the future posts a joke thread, because new people may not see this particular thread, maybe treat it as a cry for help. I remember the "brewery" thread very well now and it was an April fools day thread.

I don't think it's funny but in the same way I don't think office humor is funny (you two are wearing blue, I didn't get the memo. Ugh.) but then again, those same folks are trying to start a convo or connect. Maybe that's their ice breaker and I should be friendlier, but in general... Now I'm rambling.
No , I just can't see the humour in them & I think I have a pretty good sense of humour!
Possibly, as I recently relapsed , the severity of it was no joke.
I agree with WeHavs earlier comment about newbies trying to be funny etc , I get that .
But ..
If a friend of mine posted on here they had relapsed I would feel distraught . If I read more & it ended up being a joke I'd be pretty POed to be honest.
There is just no joke in relapse.

I voted no, because they're... just not funny. I realize everyone isn't Chris Rock, but I have a hard time even calling those threads "jokes". Now, if someone were to say it in a way that is actually funny, I'd be okay with it.
As someone who is not a newbie to the site but has recently relapsed, I despise those type of joke threads. Even when I was sober for a while these type of joke threads still rubbed me the wrong the way.
I find them condscending to others who may have stumbled or went back "out there."
I know I shouldn't take it personal but to me it comes off as, "hey look at me I can make jokes about relapsing because I am firm in my recovery even though others may not. Haha, I'm still sober and you are not."
Not to mention, why cry fire in a crowded building? People will want to run to your aid and its kind of cruel when there really isn't a need for aide.
I hope that makes sense and isnt too rough.
