Week1:Inventory
It has been a week since I decided to recommit to sobriety. Already, in that week, I've noticed the following:
Thanking you all my SR friends for welcoming me back. I felt so ashamed that I fell off the wagon again, and really appreciate your support.
- Health is better: stomach acid isn't churning, heart isn't fluttering. No headaches or feeling like I'm dragging because I drank the night before. Still waking up in the middle of the night, but not because of night sweats or dehydration. Starting, in the last day or two, to be able to roll over and fall back asleep.
- Work: Starting to feel productive. Starting to work a bit on projects that have been making me anxious with calm focus. Tapping back into the pleasure of my job, rather than thinking of it as something to "get through" when I was drinking. Able to be a better colleague, listening attentively to the anxieties of folks and helping to brainstorm solutions (if there are any) without "taking on" their worry. T
- Outlook: Feel happiness and joy. Also feel sadness too, especially for wasted time and opportunity. But I recall from the last time around that the price I have to pay to have feelings is that I have to have all of them, the good and the bad.I don't get to decide. But I get to decide what I do or don't do when I have those feelings.

Don't feel ashamed. It happens to us all i think!
Look forward. You already have 1 week and just look at all of the positive things that are happening. Sounds like you're dealing with the small stuff as it happens.
I think you're doing very well. Keep going!

Awesome, isn't it? It's amazing how fast we improve when we stop pouring poisons into our bodies. Truly amazing.
What's beautiful, is that you recognize all those improvements. Your excited about them. Your not hung up on not drinking or mourning being drunk.
There's so many ways our lives improve being sober. Some may be small, others are too obvious to ignore. I think the key to early sobriety is to do exactly what you're doing....be grateful for the small stuff and the big stuff.
Good for you! I'm really happy for ya!
