A week in.... changes already

I used to google wondering how I'd feel, what might change quickly IF I could just abstain for a bit. (usually 120+ units a week... and my aim is to never want another SINGLE unit)... so in the hope it might help someone in the hole as much as I was ..

- already I'm sleeping better
- I'm less irritable
- I'm less sweaty (nice!)
- I've argued less with my Husband (he's stopped too)
- I have odd rushes of euphoria
- I'm tired now and then and suddenly love a nap
- my skin is less oily
- my skin is FAR FAR less puffy and red / grey... takes half the time to put my makeup on
- my 'moon face' is going down
- I have more motivation to just get things done
- I'm losing weight (I'm a UK 8-10, US 4-6) and already my stomach is flattening back to its pre heavy boozing self... despite relaxing my diet while I just focus on getting sober.
- I had a vile dull ache under my right rib... that's gone

...... and I can remember ALL of this weekend

I've been really incredibly lucky I've been drinking stupid amounts for years, probably 15 all told, a run up of 7 years of too much (maybe double the recommended) then a further five of dangerous.. maybe 70-80 units a week then the last 3 years, utter crash probably never below 120 a week and.... on this attempt of quitting the worst I've experienced has been sweats, night terrors and tiredness. How I haven't suffered a seizure (either during withdrawal or during all the stupid drinking) or worse I don't know, I have a dodgy heart and heart attack and stroke are huge n my family.

Well - just wanted to check in really as putting the odd post on here is really helping me stay sober.

What a great post. It is amazing how toxic alcohol is....I look 10 years older after a bender. Its awful. And my lips always get unbearably chapped...its so weird. The longer you are sober, the more amazing changes you will see.

There are always ups and downs, life never stops happening. Just know that all feelings change, good and bad. But drinking will never, ever help anything.

Thanks Time, for the wonderful reminders of the rewards of staying sober. It helps to read how people improve more and more every day and an inspiration to us that aren't as far along. I'm at 5 days and enjoying the steady hands and clear mind and improved memory. What a change! :-)

Can't tell you all how much this place has helped. My life is turning around in a big way. I have improved my health, my relationship with my Husband, and gotten a new job... in which I'm about to setup a brand new office for .

I know it won't always be easy, and there will be challenges that lie ahead, but I feel a lot less alone now and more able to cope.

THANK YOU ALL AT SR
