Help..
I've taken a few trips to the ER as a result of my drinking. Injuries, alcoholic hepatitis, and a medical detox. I was alone for each one. The emptiness I felt inside as I lay awake at 4am in a hospital cot was soul-crushing.
A lot of my drinking was to combat the loneliness I felt, yet it was my drinking which was driving everyone away. I see a therapist and attend AA meetings so I don't feel so alone. I use this site at all other times. Keep fighting and don't give up!

You doing better today?
I find that I HAVE to keep busy. I like to cook, so preparing an elaborate meal is always good for me.
Do you have pets? Take them for a walk? Or go on a hike?
Why did you end up in the ER? Is it bc of drinking and that it makes you sick?
Reading a book, watching a movie that you want to see, going outside, going for a bike ride, going to the mall/shopping... those are all things that could keep you busy.
And sure people might be upset that you relapsed and it might break their heart, but I think it would be good for you to get it off your chest. Might help you cope a little better, and they might even help. Who are you afraid to tell?

Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. On the exhale say to yourself, 'this will pass. It's only a feeling '.
Then locate the feeling - it will be in your solar plexus around the naval.
The cravings will come in waves tonight. Let them come and go. Each wave will pass. Then a bit later another one will come. Again, exhale and say 'this will pass'.
Let yourself glimpse a little bit of 'tomorrow-you' when you wake up feeling proud that you got through last night.

Hello Charliee,
I hope you're doing a little better today.
I completely understand the craving to just numb out, to escape all the thoughts in your head. For me, loneliness, and being alone are huge triggers.
You're battling a huge beast, surely being honest with your family is the way to go? You shouldn't have to do this alone.
Best wishes to you.
