Hey ya'll

I just had my second therapy session today. It went well, but I know it is going to be emotionally taxing. 9/11 is next week (and I have an appt on that day). Hope I can deal with this soberly. It is hard stuff already.

Hi artfriend, good to hear therapy is working out for you so far. I think it will help get the results you want if you abstain :)

ArtFriend 09-03-2015 05:19 PM

Please disregard this post. Thanks

Dee74 09-03-2015 05:24 PM

I'm not sure why you want this to be disregarded AF.

I think it's great you're seeing someone, and that you're being proactive about anniversaries coming up soon.
I have nothing but praise for you and how you're trying to deal with stuff :)

but...it's your thread.

If you want me to close it I will - but I can't delete it, for the reasons we discussed in PM.

ArtFriend 09-03-2015 05:29 PM

It has to do with other threads where I was "reminded" of living in the past and "using" these anniversaries as an "excuse". So best not go there.

Dee74 09-03-2015 05:31 PM

You're projecting something that hasn't happened tho.

D

ArtFriend 09-03-2015 05:33 PM

I can give you specific examples. But why use this space to argue about it?

AF, I'm happy to hear you sounding positive. Psychotherapy can be emotionally draining but the benefits over time can make a huge difference in our quality of life (((hugs))).

ArtFriend 09-03-2015 05:50 PM

Thank you Saskia. I appreciate the support

Hi Art:

Who cares about what others may think?!?!?

This is about you and if you feel like posting, post!

I think maybe you might be seeing those things in your own words and like Dee said, projecting.

Remember: take from the feedback what you like and leave what you don't.

Remember we are a family here and all of us want the best for you. Even if sometimes our approach isn't the best.

Hugs!!!

Try to just focus on avoiding triggers if anniversaries are tough on you - I'm concerned by the use of quotation marks in your earlier post; it reads like you're getting upset by what others may think or what's been said in the past. If you look at your posts, there's a cycle of soliciting opinion on how other people/events affect your sobriety, defensiveness and anger at some of the comments, and then apologizing for lashing out. I'm not saying this to "pile on" but rather perhaps recognizing if you're getting worked up could nip this in the bud? I know it helps me. Congratulations on the appointments!

My bad. I cannot properly express myself here. It is a one dimensional medium in a 3D world. That is why I wanted the whole thing removed

AF my grandmother died 9/11/01......from cancer. Every year I am reminded of this in a huge way via all the media coverage. And every year I spent a good week binging. How bout we get through this together...sober.

ScottFromWI 09-03-2015 06:20 PM

I'm glad you had a good 2nd appt with your therapist AF. That in itself should give you some extra tools and confidence to make it through the week. SR is always here too, focus on all the things you do have at your disposal.

Delfin 09-03-2015 06:24 PM

Therapy and 9/11 can make for a tough day, but you will get through it, AF. Sending positive vibes your way. Catch 'em! :-)

But your GM did not die due to the terrorist attacks right? My sister did.

Della1968 09-03-2015 06:37 PM

I am aware of that. Never mind.

Mags1 09-03-2015 06:46 PM

Hiya art friend.

I'm so pleased the therapy sessions are going well. I've had them and I would come out like my brain had been taken out and put through the washing machine cycle and then back in my head! Also very physically tiring. But I had to go through it to get to the rewards, the other side.

I'm sorry for your loss of your sister, Such a terrible, terrible time and tragedy. Please keep in touch with your therapist, if that is possible. We are here, just trying to be supportive but if you want the thread/post removed you can report it in the left hand corner above 'post reply'.

Dee74 09-03-2015 06:47 PM

I'm sorry for your loss Della, and to AF, and to anyone else for whom 9/11 is painful, whatever the reason.

There will be support here - always.

Lets leave this thread on that positive note.
