Getting a new pet

I have always gone by the saying if you can't look after yourself, you can't look after a dog. I've seen people give them away which breaks my heart. A dog is for life, certainly not a cure for depression. There's lotsa dog walking groups about too, elderly folk and such that can't get out and about, perhaps try that first?
