Fear bubbling up...

Having to giggle at myself this morning.

Tomorrow is 'back to school' day for me as a teacher, and I finally steeled myself to look at my work emails. One of them looked a little ominous, and I managed to convince myself it would hold information that would challenge me. After steeling myself, first with a tea. Then a coffee, Then a shower. (In my drinking days it would have been alcohol no doubt) I finally opened it....

Hi

'X' is looking forward to seeing everyone at the staff training days next week.

A quick reminder that attendance at the training days will be as follows:

· Wednesday 2nd September - Teachers only (Governors joining us in the morning)

· Thursday 3rd September - Medical Training - All staff

· Friday 4th September – Preparation Day - All staff

Prompt 9.00am start each day please with a 4.00pm finish.

Please bring your own packed lunch and remember pens/pencils etc.

Have a good bank holiday weekend.

Best wishes

'Y'

Class act 'Fear'. Class act. *Applause*.

Most of the things I get fearful about end up to, in reality, be nothing worth worrying about at all. I shall now send my AV to the naughty step and get on with opening the rest of my e-mails. *Eyeroll*

This made me laugh Beccybean .

On the same note , as I was driving to my dental appointment at 08:30 this morning there were dozens of school kids making their way to their perspective schools and it got me thinking !!!! I wonder how each of them will turn out ? where did it all go wrong with me ( alcoholism ) , I loved school and done ok , not brilliant but got what I needed academically . I had a sound upbringing and mixed well . Then I sighed and envied their youth and wished I at that stage again ..............then I snapped out of it !!!!! that,s life I said out loud and preceded on my way with a wry smile and a shoulder shrug.

Do the kids in your schools get much in the way of drug/alcohol misuse . I know in Scotland its quite limited going by what my grand kids tell us .

OMG - I shudder just to think about being a teenager again. Or a child. No going back for me, even if I could.

If there's something we regret not doing or having a go at, often now is as good a time as any x

Haha. My School prep at the moment seems to consist of a list that says:

* New pens
*New notepad
*Nice packed lunch (Healthy???!)

'Organised' is obviously my middle name.

Sounds pretty exciting - a bright new year: opportunity and a chance to start over. I like it.

I would gladly send you one of the many unused notepads I have!

You're on your own with lunch, I'm afraid.

Have a great, exciting start to your school year! You know what to do. I'd love to have you as a teacher. I'll bet you find ways to teach the big lessons you've learned in recovery. That would have been helpful for me as a student

Constantly drawing on what I've learned in recovery - esp on dealing with fears and anger! It helps me understand a lot of the behaviour I deal with a lot better.

Hi - just wanted to say that I lost a school job that I dearly loved, showed up drunk. They had already given me a chance and I had gone through Rehab. Picked up again and they had to let me go. so painful to watch all the kids heading off to school, but I am staying sober and life goes on. Stay on the path.
Thanks for listening.

That's really sad Elizabeth. How are you doing now? Will you be ready to ease your way back into it soon do you think? x

Beccy! Thanks for the post. I had to laugh...that would completely be me.

Wishing you an amazing year!!! No doubt in your recovery what you have to offer to your students has grown in leaps and bounds.

Good luck in the new school year, Beccy. I so get that sinking "oh, no" feeling. And then to find out it's just routine.

Me too. I need to get back in the swing of things. I've got the BEST tutor group this year (as long as no changes have been made over the summer that is) and some lovely support staff. It's all quite exciting really.

I just bought my new thermal mug with a safety lid, so I'm all sorted really xx
