To much sugar..
To much sugar..
During a recent family party involving booze, I didn't drink booze.
Victory...
But, I drank several Gatorades and sodas, ate loads of chips, and topped it off with donuts for breakfast. Just for fun, because I wasn't drinking.
Yesterday, started to get sick. Sore throat, sinus pressure.
Even though I am not drinking, I still have to be careful on my diet.
I am not as strong as I thought yet?...
Or...that much sugar could drop a bull..what was I thinking. ..?

Well something's gotta give sometimes... "pre" diabetic here and after dieting hard and not drinking all hell broke loose and I ate pizza 3 times in a week and a chocolate covered pretzel.
A human can only handle so much.

Yeah, I was at a party a few weeks ago, didn't touch alcohol but drank as much coke as I would have had beer. Felt as rough as a badger's arse the next day. It's not natural for the body to take in that much sugar.
But if it's helping you quit alcohol, then drink it, for now. Just not too much

Im not sure if they have Stevia sodas where you live (check a health food store) but those dont have sugar. Im sure they still arent great for you, but at least you wont get as much sugar in your system at once.
As Homer Simpson says , "Mmmmmmm doughnuts" I have no suggestions for substitutes on them.
Remember as a kid, on Halloween, you would go out trick or treating, get all that crandy, and then go on a candy bender that night and the next day... well Im sure you didnt feel so hot after that either. I sure know I didnt.

If you aren't drinking, then I doubt it's that huge an issue. I was sugar crazy for a while after quitting. I had given up soda a couple years ago prior to joining the Navy, but I could eat five Almond Snickers in a sitting and want more. I'm sure it was a combimation of my body adjusting to the lack of empty calories from the booze, trying to replace the dopamine kick with sugar instead of alcohol, boredom, and other stuff. Once I cleaned up my diet to regulate my nutrition, added in the endorphins from exercise, and adjusted the method of indulging when I do step out of the diet, I had a lot more success. Instead of just a straight candy bar, I typically do trail mix. Instead of a bowl of ice cream, its yogurt with fruit. Baked sweets are a dessert, not a substitute for breakfast.
Part of what often made me return to boozing was how lousy my body felt as it detoxed/recovered. Until I started taking care of it instead of just abstaining, I could be sober but still physically a wreck. It was a major game changer to get my body and mind headed down the right path and reduce the need for physical "relief" that alcohol would temporarily induce followed by further, amplified agony.
