Rewarding myself Today marks 6 months of sobriety. This is the longest I've ever done since my 20s. I've decided I'm hiring a personal trainer. It is a 3 month commitment. I haven't been able to get into exercising on my own and I have some issues with my knees, so instead of embarking on some made-up in my head program, I decided to treat myself. My goal is gain strength (I've been feeling really weak physically). I also hope that I'll eat better (included in the training is diet advice) and at the end of the 3 months I'll be fitter and hopefully leaner and with my knee strength be able to do some things that I haven't done in a long time. I think with increasing my exercise that a lot of the depression will also lift as exercise is known to help. This move forward for me is exciting as I am making a benchmark - a new goal. I've found that for me, at least, I succeed when I set reasonable goals. As always, I must thank the community here on SR for your continued support. CF |
I think this is a fantastic idea to reward yourself like this and congratulations on 6 months! Exercise has helped me with depression in the past, and having fitness goals have always worked well to keep me motivated and feeling better physically as well as mentally. |
Calico, congrats on 6 months sober!!! That's a real milestone. It's also good to hear that you are taking more steps to take care of yourself :-) |
fantastic idea!!!!!!!!!!!! Way to go! I think you will really enjoy it! |
Congrats!! And exercise is a natural depression buster. Good idea! |
Congratulations calicofish! 6 months is a major accomplishment!! :You_Rock_ The personal trainer sounds like a great idea. Good personal trainers can help you work around your knee issues. |
Calicofish, congrats on six months. That's great and so is the idea of a personal trainer. I have trouble getting motivated to get fit on my own too. A trainer sounds perfect. |
Awesome job on 6 Months bud :scoregood |
Six months is a great achievement, congratulations! The personal trainer thing sounds like a super idea too, it will pay itself back many times over in the long run I would imagine. Have fun! |
AWESOME on 6 months, CF, huge congratulations! :You_Rock_ The personal trainer is a great idea. It is wonderful to reward yourself, you deserve it!!! I have been tried to exercise on my own as much as possible. Had to move the laundry and dust off the exercise bike....but riding 1.5 miles in the morning and 2 at night without fail. No excuses. It is not a lot.....but DRUM ROLL please.... Had to buy jeans TWO SIZES smaller yesterday!!! O yeah, and thank the dogs for walking me every day! :) :doggy::doggy::doggy: |
That's a great idea Calico! Congrats on 6 months :) |
Brilliant!! 6 months is fantastic, (just in my sights too, I'm coming up 5 months). I love my fitness and so can highly recommend getting fit, whatever starting point you have it will pay off really soon. Most of my buzz is mental, it de-stresses me a lot. Another bonus is you get more in touch with your physical body and will be less tempted to pour poison into it. Let us know how it goes, xx |
What a great plan! well done on 6 months! I've taken the $ I spent on booze and spend it instead on pilates classes -- my back feels better, my health is better, and it's fun. |
Enjoy your Reward Calico, Great achievement on 6 Months ! |
