I need support

Hello,
I drank heavily in the past 3 months in a pattern: 5-6 days of drinking and 2-3 days of abstinence.

I am at Day 1 and am really determined to stay sober. I need support and words of encouregement.

Karol

Hi and welcome Karol

Determination is great.

Action is good too - think about the changes you might need to make to your life etc to help this decision for change take hold.

you'll find a lot of support, help and advice here

This is the key.

Action.

We cannot think, hope, determine our way to a sober life without action.

But with action, with change, we can transform our lives to something more wonderful than we ever imagined.

You can do this!

Welcome, Karol!

I'm glad you are here and wanting to get sober. For many of us it's not always an easy journey but it can be done. Good advice in the posts above.

What made you stay sober during first days of recovery?
What is your advice when craving comes (I know it will, sooner or later)?

Welcome Karol! I'm glad you're here. There is a lot of information here that you can use to learn and support your recovery.

SR has chat meetings on Tuesday and Fridays at 8p CST. I have found these chat meetings super helpful in my recovery and hope that you can join us.

Dearest Karol, each day when you wake up, write down a plan for your entire day. Fill all the hours. Keep it very simple. Wake, breakfast, read paper, go to work, drive home, quick snack, 90-minute walk, small healthy dinner, clean kitchen, to coffee shop with a book, watch the news, meditate, to bed. You must also identify the hard window. Mine is 4-6 but shrinking. Used to be 2-7. Have a daily plan for getting through that tough time when your cravings are going nuts. Also, take action. Get your teeth taken care of. Clean your car and house. Get a full physical. Pick up two new hobbies. Finally, open the future up for yourself by saying each day "I can drink tomorrow if I choose to, but I am not going to drink today." It is just a little trick of the mind but if you feel like there isn't a Mt. Everest of sober days looming in the future that are going to be as hard as these first few weeks, it is easier to tackle. Good luck dearest Karol. Please post often and let us know how it is going.

Dee always recommends this action and recovery plan Action Planning for Prevention and Recovery: A Self-Help Guide|SAMHSA. It can be downloaded free and it is very helpful. Good luck, post often.

Welcome.

Pretend you have been given too many chances.

Pretend you have been told if you don't stop now you will lose everything you love.

Or don't pretend...cause it might be true....

You can do it.

Odat.

I'm not drinking today.

U?

Welcome. Filling the empty time was critical for me. There is great happiness in being sober and realizing that I can control and care for myself and that I am worth that care. I'm in your corner. I'm not drinking today. Hope you aren't either

I am not drinking today.
Hanging around here most of the time. Reading a book about art. Going to the movies with my brother in the evening. A little afraid of the withdrawals I am going to have: anxiety, insomnia and nightmares (if I eventually fall asleep).
I am so grateful for the support I am receiving here.
Thank you!

Welcome Karol!

You are totally capable of doing this! Just make the changes that are needed in your life to stay away from alcohol and grow as a sober person. Make a plan

Welcome!
