I'm glad you got through DD

The bottom line for me was I could drink...or be the person I wanted to be...but not both. I had to pick one

I do not want a glass of wine, I want a case
THAT's the problem........
And that leads to pitiful and incomprehensible demoralization.

Remember now???

Thanks for today's reminder

Just read through the whole thread & am very happy about the outcome, DD!
I think each time we get over one of these hurdles we grow stronger.

DD, I've found these incredibly delicious San Pellegrino juice drinks that distract me when I feel like drinking. (I do not work for San Pellegrino and am not getting a commission for this plug! :-D

You did great today! Pat yourself on the back.

Delfin's right about finding other lovely things to drink instead of alcohol. I keep the kitchen stocked with lots of juices and sodas and flavoured teas.

Of course it helps to share if you get a craving. I find it also helps a lot to contact other members of AA.

Two things popped right into my head:

1. It would set off a craving for more.
2. I would go back into addict behaviors and seek more, maybe even justify it.

I really like this, Dee.

I think in the beginning you have to be at least open to the fact you will never find out who you were really meant to be if you drink.

There were times in the early days I literally sat on my hands, to stop myself from moving from the lounge and leaving to get alcohol. Those early hard cravings are the Pits. But giving in to them sends your brain the message that a craving urge gets a reward. Shut it down. I remember a drunk vomit or a blackout to kill any positive thought toward alcohol.

Never feed those rose coloured glasses memories. Kill them.

It feels like AV has gone into some kind of crazy panic mode yesterday and today. It is odd to watch the straws it is clutching at.

You do want one. I'm longing for a beer. This is a fact I cannot change unfortunately. I'll instead remind you of how great it is to overcome this overwhelming desire. I'm very new to this, but what keeps me going so far is knowing that I've driven past the store on the way home from work another day. I've been taking them one at a time. Every one is hard for me right now, but as I go to sleep there is a newfound satisfaction that I will wake up sober, productive, and happy. Just plain happy...well... just plain happy with a little irritability from time to time.

I am still not waking up happy but there is a ton of change in my life that is causing that not just the stopping the drinks. The whole set up of who I am and how I live my life has changed in pretty much every single way. The only constants for now are my family my dogs and I still smoke. Everything else is different. I guess AV is desperate to find itself a place in the new order of things. It wants drinking to be a part of the new me very much and knows if it can't get it's foot in the door now while I am creating new habits it doesn't have much chance. It does so have a temper tantrum once in a while lol. Like a spoiled little child who has been told it is time for bed.

I find happiness in success. I didn't mean to portray a perfect world of happiness. Sorry to hear you have major life changes affecting this positive aspect of your life. Keep up the good work. Tell your AV to ZIP IT! Lol

Without the other changes I would not be on this path. They are hard changes but they are also for the best .
