Detox plan in the UK incase anyone is interested

My Detox plan...

Had my half hour appointment with Addaction. After doing a SADQ test with the Addaction counsellor I cam out with a score of 33, which is in the higher range.

After saying I want total abstinence, not wanting to mess around with moderating after years of battling this and losing, she thinks I will be ideal for the following;

Meeting with her and the specialist Dr as soon as possible to book me on a "Home and Dry" detox. This will involve me taking a tapering dose of Librium for 5 days. This is Chlordiazepoxide hydrochloride which treats alcohol withdrawal. For this 5 days I have to visit my surgery every day to have my blood pressure monitored. If ok, after 5 days I go onto Acamprosate which will help with cravings.

She has also booked me on a 3 session brief intervention group which is a bunch of people going through the same thing at the same time, then there are also 2 drop in sessions a week which are social support groups which focus on the future rather than the past.

I am so glad, so pleased to be offered a way out, am keen to really do this!

She said from now till we start (hopefully early Sep) try switching to a lower % wine as it will reduce my weekly units without me really noticing.

She was very down to earth, understanding, humorous, would recommend this route for anyone in the UK wanting help.

They are a national organisation, http://www.addaction.org.uk/default....Title=Homepage

I will post again when I start the process x

I'm thrilled for you forever fuzzy, that sounds like a really solid plan you all put into place. What a great opportunity to get started on your recovery with a full team of support of professionals and other addicts around you to help.
Remember, it's not just the program that counts, but what you put into. Give it your all this time, you can do this.
Great job for getting there and starting the ball rolling. I can't wait to hear how it goes.

Do you have face to face support from other people in recovery, especially people who've been sober for a while? That can help a lot, especially in motivating you to do things like going to visit the doctor's surgery every day. I found it difficult to ask for outside help at first but it made all the difference.

No face to face support yet but I plan on adding some AA meetings to my routine as well, I'm project managing this recovery plan more thoroughly than I ever have before, I hope and pray it's going to work for me. I've got the Dr appt this Friday for him to assess me and hopefully agree to this Home and Dry programme, so I'll find out then what date we can fix it for.

That sounds positive. And the good news is that there are meetings all over the place and all through the week. When are you going to go?
