Sober for me means no alcohol - my first fall started from oysters in champagne... Slip and slide.

I know how my brain reacts when I have one. It's on fire. The doorway to hell is open.

I can't moderate, at least not for long. Or not without thinking about the drinking
Thanks wehave. I understand what you mean about not being legally drunk doesn't mean you're sober and I agree, but according to Merriam-Webster, sober means "not drunk". It says nothing about not having anything in your system

No. You are trying to justify drinking.

I'm not sure digging out a dictionary and going by the black/white definition is a great way forward as a basis for recovery.

I spent years trying to control my drinking, sometimes I wasn't drunk, but many other times I was, the reason being addiction doesn't work in a vacuum, each day doesn't happen in isolation,

Instead each day became a progression to the next, there was a spiral, the flood gates were slowly being eroded away, and before I new it I'd have drank more days than not in a month, feeling pretty pleased with myself that I'd only had 2 beers each day . . . but who was I kidding?

Sobriety is more than a definition, in the same way addiction is more than volume consumed or drunk/not drunk, it's the behaviours that go along with it.

Quit looking for that excuse to just have 1. I've been in your story before, it doesn't end well.

You need to commit yourself to being 100% sober if that's what you want.

Want to drink 1 or 2? Fine, but you're not sober.

Wolf I'm not justifying anything of that sort. I was just reading over the posts and the thought came to me one morning. I'm on my 13th day. Haven't had a drink since 8/3/2015 and pretty proud of myself. Just asking a question that came to mind.

Not looking for an excuse rush, I'm 13 days alcohol free which is a feat for me a being committed to being alcohol free. Just asking a question that came to mind since being on SR.

Say you discovered you were allergic to peanuts — that bad things sometimes happened when you ate them, and you could never be sure whether eating any amount of peanuts would be safe for you. Would you congratulate yourself on going two weeks peanut-free? Would you be mulling whether you might be able to indulge in a peanut or two on occasion without triggering an allergic response? Would the question of whether eating one or two peanuts would disqualify you from “peanut sobriety” even occur to you?

No. You just wouldn’t eat peanuts.
