Ring Ring! Sober Weekender Thread Aug 14
I'm in and good morning. Welcome Kamm and Sharon05. ontheroad, glad you're back. Hi Ditzydandelion.
Today my vacation starts. Eleven whole days off of work. I'm hoping it's a mix of being productive and having fun. The days fly by though, so I have to be mindful.
I just saw the famous, infamous parrots. Haven't seen them in a while. Yes, Midwestern parrots. They started out as escapees in the 1930s and have expanded their urban turf ever since. Cool.

See linked below a couple of Webcams at the YMCA Of The Rockies Site where that uber-cute Deer/Bunny Video was recorded. Pals from Scotland used to love staying there on the relative cheap. Up the Hill in the first Webcam background is a climbing 'switchback' Road. A good Pal got married in a big rented House up there a few Decades ago. One mighty majestic view out over the 'Y' - and toward the Continental Divide - from the Deck at this Joint.
The Town of Estes Park is perhaps most famous for the Stanley Hotel; built by the creator of the Steam-powered 'Stanley Steamer' Car. Said Car is displayed in the Lobby. Back in the day, Guests would take Horse-drawn Wagons - or Steam-powered Cars - up to the Stanley to 'take the Air' as cures for TB, or Pleurisy.
An impoverished Stephen King - living down the Road in Boulder - used the Stanley as the basis for 'The Shining'. The Movie was shot on Sets because the Town didn't have enough Electricity to power all the Lights and Equipment. A second Film version that King oversaw was actually shot at the Stanley; King's strong original preference.
See the Stanley front Lawn perspective below at a Relative's Wedding I shot Amateur Pix at. Using several substantial Outbuildings by the Stanley, it's not unusual for 3 or 4 Weddings to be going on simultaneously during 'peak' Summer Matrimonial Season. In possibly-related News, there's a Female Ghost well-known to haunt one of the Hotel Rooms. We had no such encounters when we stayed there.
