breaking the chain
Hi everyone. Day 2 of no drinking. Im a 39 year old woman determined not to turn into a disgusting old soak...because that's truly where I'm destined if I don't sort my habit out. My dad died of alcoholism and my nan before him. I know he is looking down at me and saying...u need to break the chain. Im used to drinking two to three bottles of wine per night and still somehow manage to be an assistant head teacher who teaches a class. However the drink is now starting to show..weight gain, puffy face, lack of energy, red face at times. I really hope I can do it. Haven't not drunk for around 8 years..since my dad died. Xx

Hi and welcome.
This can be the beginning of a wonderful life that many dream of and it results by just not drinking one day at a time in a row. It’s that simple, not always easy because alcohol is powerful, baffling, cunning and very progressive.
At meetings it’s mentioned to people still drinking that this day is your best day until you stop drinking because it will get worse.
I needed to go to 90 meetings in 90 days and many years later still go to 3-5 a week.
BE WELL

Raineangel, You absolutely can start a new chapter! I think that's exactly what he is looking down saying. Make today a new day! We've all made the mistakes and have been fooled by alcohol. There's a much better way to live. Lots of support here for you. I'm glad you are here!
Welcome to SR.
I'm also breaking the chains of third generation alcoholism on my mother's side.
90 days sober today. .. One day at a time and many many meetings. keep coming back. It works if we work at it

Day 3, didn't have a good night last night, I constantly felt like their were bugs on my skin, and I was itching profusely.
Headaches galore today.
I haven't had terrible cravings, but I am missing my glass of wine with dinner. Thing is- with me it is never one.
Thankyou for all the welcome messages. This forum was a god send last night when I couldn't sleep for hours and hours.

Well it does get better. The first few weeks were tough and I would lay in bed and cry. Now I am used to it and deal with it. Some weeks are easy, then I have a hard time. Recovery is so unpredictable.
I, too, broke the chains. I watched both of my parents on deaths door in the ICU due to alcoholism.
This site has been very valuable in my recovery. Best of luck and stay strong
