welcome Eddie....
Thank you for sharing your story. It'll help keep me sober today.
So many pieces of it remind me of my own. The starting to drink at such an early age. The blind drunkenness, the hangovers, the dependence of it eventually taking over, the grief and despair.
You said you tried AA and it wasn't for you. I get that, I also felt that way.
Then again, you quoted something powerful that you found in AA which has stuck with you.
I tried AA and gave up on it because it 'wasn't for me'. Until later, when it was.
I didn't give myself fully and completely to the simple program, as they say. I suppose I instead "accepted the program's tools and wisdom as a component of my overall sobriety".
With that shift I found much strength and support in AA and am grateful that it helped me past 1.5 years of sobriety and still rocking.
Stick around, you can change your life for the incredibly better.
