Do you think I can do this?

I have been taking phentermine (amphetamine like) for over 17 years, daily and decided that it is time I stop. Theses pills control me. I want my control back. But it is so long 17 years... I am not sure if I can live normally...

Absolutely...anyone can quit any substance if they truly want to. I commend your decision to get free of it. I don't know much about the substance you take, but withdrawals are not something to take lightly....maybe you could check with a doctor before quitting?

I'm glad you've decided to stop using the drugs. I also think it could be a good idea to talk to your dr.

Hi futureve! You absolutely can get off of them, just make sure you see a doc to do so and so you can be monitored. I was on them, with a prescription and had to be weened.

Good luck!

I think you can too - it may not be easy, and you may need some help, but definitely achievable

I know you can do it. It may not be easy, or not as easy as not trying, but people have used even longer and quit. I'm glad you found SR! It's good to have you with us, futureve.

Yes.

You can do this.

Embrace the desire to get free of your addiction - totally and completely.

Surround yourself with support.

MAKE THE CHANGES you need to make in your life to support your choice to be free of it.

Arm yourself - with knowledge and with help.

DO IT. EVERY DAY.

We're here for you.

Hey Eve,

I used to take Phentermine all the time. I know how it is. When I stopped taking it a couple years ago, I noticed that my anxiety pretty much stopped and I didn't shake nearly as much. I did get my appetite back, but didn't gain any weight. I have confidence in you that you can do it. Mind over matter. I'm sure your heart will thank you for the break too. Best wishes!

There are hundreds and hundreds, if not thousands, of daily participants here who are proof that, yes, you can stop using your drug of choice. Make a plan, including seeing a doctor, and make today the first day of the rest of your life. Wishing you the best today!

You can do it! I have no personal experience with phentermine but understanding the basics of how it works I would strongly suggest working with a doctor to make sure you do this safely. It may not be easy at first, but in the long run I bet you will find you feel much better.

You definitely can, futureve!

Like others have said, please talk with a doctor about withdrawals and what to expect while quitting. I'm glad you've posted and hope you continue to.
