First time on this site
First time on this site
Greetings all. This is my first visit to this site and my first post. I have had a very long drinking career, with the past few years being particularly bad. I have wanted to quit for a very long time and have dabbled in AA, WFS, and some other recovery groups. I have read hundreds of books on alcoholism and recovery. Obviously, to no avail. I need support and am reaching out, which is very hard for me to do. I just had a glass of vanilla chai tea, which I haven't had in a long, long time. I had forgotten how delicious it is. That's how I settled on my username. Sounds a lot better than CheapChardonnay, don't you think?
Welcome to the Forum VanillaChaiTea!!
For me support was everything, I could have all the intentions in the world but in isolation my addiction would grind me down and convince me of all the reasons as to why drinking was still a good idea.
Great to have you onboard!!

Hi there,,, we both posted our first post about the same time today - and yes, your Chai Tea name is alot better than Cheap Chardoney!! I am drinking an ice coffee right now but that wouldn't make a great name either - Good Luck to you, may we both achieve the long term sobriety that we are seeking..
Welcome VCT! We're so glad to have you here.
I never heard of that tea flavor - I see that Bigelow makes it? I'm going to get some.
I had a 30 year drinking career. I nearly didn't make it to freedom. SR really helps take the anxiety out of the whole thing. You can do it!

Welcome sir,
I can relate. Alcohol has been in my system for most of the last 40+ years. Sobriety feels weird. 84 days now. I am serious about never, ever drinking another drop. God help me. 1 day at a time.
I am/have been relatively successful. Functional. I somehow managed a 20 year military career, an MBA, multiple Martial Arts Black Belts, and have achieved middle-class financial independence. This whole time i was able to keep a level of alcohol in my system (for the most part).
It wasn't until I had a recent health scare while driving. Had to pull over, after a hard work out, because the world started to spin.
The was my bottom.
This forum and the internet... Google mostly...has saved my life.
Period.
See you online.

Thanks all. It feels good to be here. I have been very isolated these past few years. Go to work, come home, get plastered. Great fun. It's really gotten out of control this past year, though, in some scary ways. I'll share more soon and will participate in some of the other threads, too. I drink most days of the week (4 to 5), most recently yesterday. I'm tired of it and it's my responsibility to put an end to it.

Hi VanillaChaiTea!
Your name is awesome!
I was a cheap Chardonnay girl, too.
This sobriety thing is great! Starting at fear of the unknown by stopping drinking has turned into delight at the unexpected little triumphs of sobriety, and pleasure in the knowledge I am giving my body the rest and care it has so badly needed and so richly deserves.
I hope you will believe that will happen for you, because if it's time, please don't be afraid. Trust that you will see benefits as you give your body and mind a break from that vicious hamster wheel of drink/hangover/drink/hangover.
Welcome to SR!
