Tooth extraction, WANT A WHISKEY, :-(

Just had a messy and very painful tooth extraction; came out in about 5 pieces; took 40 minutes! Suffering on the sofa, and absolutely gagging for a whiskey. Argh!

Why would you want to make it worse by drinking?

Is it you want the whiskey to numb the pain? If so try a dab of clove oil instead on the tooth... tastes rank but does give the same numbing feeling a dab of whiskey will give you x

eww I can sympathize there, last extraction I had , he called in other nurses to show them how long the roots were! "No wonder it broke" .
But like the urge/craving for a drink, this pain too shall pass.
Best support I can offer is to remind that as for 'reasons drinking is permissible' , you're sol, sorry, but you got that right?
You'd be better off smashing a finger with a hammer, it will heal eventually, you may not make it back from pouring whisky down your throat, eh ?

See if you can get into your Dr , maybe can get a script for some strong mouth numbing wash . Put ice on your check & freeze it up off & on . Drinking surly won't help it will may make you (think) you feel better in the moment , but how will you feel tomorrow ??? This is just another test that your AV is doing to you - Tell It To Shut the Blank up & back OFF !!

Thank you for the replies. I know it wouldn't be just the one whiskey. Before I know it the bottle would be gone and my 21 days would be back to 0. This just stinks is all.

It certainly isn't comfortable I"m sure, but remember that physical pain is simply a sensation that will pass. And there are many other ways you can lessen it or distract you from it other than getting drunk. As a bonus, none of those alternatives involve hangovers, shame, anxiety and fear. Coming here first was a fantastic idea, maybe an ice pack or a popsicle would help ease the pain for a bit?

The last extraction I had I decided I deserved all the ice cream I wanted. I kind of lived on rootbeer floats and mac n cheese and mashed potatoes.

It was awesome.

I got prescription pain meds - and I know those are dangerous with alcohol.

May you feel better soon!

Also witchy if you had an injection or two I think you are told not to drink alcohol for at least 24 hours

You have my sympathy as I had a back molar taken out a couple of months ago and it was very uncomfortable - my face was lopsided for a few days

Hi witchy so sorry you are in pain! I have had my own dental horror stories.
It will pass. I know it sucks... but it will pass.
Stay strong. I can understand you may feel entitled to a drink after all this but you know you'll be better off in the long run and think how proud you can be remaining sober under stress- and we will all be here to applaud you when you post about it!
Stay strong
I am looking forward to your next sober post.
