It's No Fun

It's no fun being late for work.
It's no being hungover all day.
It's no fun being sore from falling the night before.
It's no fun worrying about everything you've done.
It's no fun neglecting your family.
It's no fun thinking about that first drink.
It's no fun thinking about that last drink.
It's no fun to have panic attacks.
It's no fun being broke.
It's no fun humiliating yourself.
It's no fun wondering what others think.
It's no fun being a drunk.

I never had fun when drinking. Now that I'm sober everything I do is fun.

Great post. Now maybe look for the opposite statements, ie "It's nice to arrive at work on time and ready for a fulfilling day. It's wonderful to wake up clear-headed and ready to face the world. It's nice to have some money in the bank," etc.

On a note inspired by your list, Iggy Pop has been sober/clean for at least 20 years now and still rocks. When my baby sister was three or four years old, she used to love to sing along with this song:

It's no fun to live as a cat, drifting in and out of sleep all day, just getting up to get sips to barely maintain, and neglect all duties in front of your family.

Even though none of the consequences on your list were fun, I was still under the impression for some time that the drinking itself was fun. But I was mistaken. By the end it was joyless and compulsory.

Yeah, definitely no fun any more. When I was 20 it is was pretty cool. Now that I'm 33, not so much.

Hey Jillian! Hanging in there, as with most people.

I want to love and be loved back again, you know? That's all I ever really wanted. You know when you're just cuddling in bed together, falling asleep together, then waking up and the first thing you see is each other? During those times, life's struggles seem quite miniscule, because at the end of the day you have each other, and that's all that matters.

I want that back. Unfortunately, it's not for sale on eBay.

How are you doing? Hanging in there?

I'm sure in time, you will find love again. But I do think you need to focus on you right now so when that time comes, you'll be able to give 100%.

I'm hanging in there. I've been pretty quiet the past two days. A lot on my mind!

My addictive voice would say, "Gee, wouldn't it be fun to get loaded?" And I'd cave in. But the actual consequences would be that I'd get loaded, then stumble around the apartment and forget to feed the cats or do the dishes, pass out with the TV still on, wake up the next morning feeling like utter crap, groan my way to work, sweat a lot from any exertion, force myself to stay awake in meetings, and then head home exhausted.

Yes, AV, that was loads of fun. </sarcasm>

Great list Jillian, great reminders for when the road of sobriety gets challenging.
